Editorial Guidelines

Our standards for accuracy, fairness, and transparency

Our Editorial Mission

The Cash Genie exists to help consumers make informed credit card decisions. Every piece of content we publish—whether it's a card review, comparison tool, or educational article—is created with this mission in mind.

We are committed to accuracy, fairness, and putting our readers' interests first.

How We Research Credit Cards

Our card information comes directly from official sources:

  • Card issuer websites — We pull terms, rates, and benefits directly from banks and credit unions
  • Official card agreements — We review the fine print so you don't have to
  • Press releases — We monitor announcements for new cards and benefit changes
  • Direct communication — We reach out to issuers to clarify details when needed

Our Review Process

1. Data Collection

We gather comprehensive data on each card including annual fees, APRs, rewards rates, sign-up bonuses, and perks.

2. Analysis

We evaluate cards based on objective criteria: value proposition, target audience, competitive positioning, and potential drawbacks.

3. Writing

Our content team creates clear, jargon-free explanations that help readers understand what each card offers.

4. Review

A second team member verifies all facts and figures before publication.

5. Updates

We regularly audit published content to ensure it remains accurate as card terms change.

Independence from Advertisers

While The Cash Genie earns revenue through affiliate partnerships (see How We Make Money), our editorial team operates independently from our business relationships.

This means:

  • Advertisers cannot pay for favorable reviews or ratings
  • Cards without affiliate relationships receive equal editorial treatment
  • We disclose cons and limitations even for cards that pay us well
  • Our recommendation algorithms are based on user value, not affiliate payouts

Corrections Policy

We take accuracy seriously, but mistakes happen. When we discover an error:

  • We correct it as quickly as possible
  • For significant errors, we add a correction note explaining what changed
  • We maintain records of all corrections for accountability

Found an error? Please let us know at corrections@thecashgenie.com.
